Two questions as "the ghost of our time" are wondering over Europe:

Open Daemon Lab is a monthly meeting of people involved in crafting free digital culture. It is a meeting place for electronic artists setting up their own workshops and collaborative art projects; it is an open lab; an informal gathering for idea sharing. It is a place to investigate meaning and transformation of media.

The Daemon project, as an Unix Daemon, allows communication to happen. As a lesser Greek deity, allows the being to access a more prosperous and happy state, eudaimonia (happiness, to have a good daimon), or to end up in despair and misery if mistreated. We feel strongly the need to have productive contact and sharing with our fellow researchers, and to keep the process in an harmonic, balanced, free cultural form. Our aim is to gather fellow artists, thinkers, engineers and hackers in a place for research and development, where we focus on free and open source hardware and software technologies.

Our first goal is the open-studio: creating a temporary location accessible on a periodic base, where anyone is welcome to come and experiment & develop feasibility of media-art, exchange freely fresh ideas and experiment with technologies.

A space for questions and answers, problem solving and development to be shared. New topics and discussion items will be proposed freely by participants and natural links and connections between them will favour joint projects and cultural exchange.

Concept: Denis Jaromil Rojo, Federico Bonelli - of course inspired by all of us :)

PROGRAM (number zero)

14:30--->16:30 Open Lab

16:30--->17:00 5' round

17:00-->17:15 drinkije, pissije, sigaretije... 17:15-->18:00 technical argument of the month + discussion round: Dynebolic ][ 18:00-->18:10 In my bookshelf this month: 10' of deprecable - old media related- book talk. "The Visual Mind II" ed. Michele Emmer. What do the Artist's do with theorems and the Matematician's do with a canvas? 18:10--> END "get the hell out of here" e relaxing way to leave the premises with refreshments and a good mood :)

HOW TO STREAM: Stream audio and video of the 5'round, the techie of the month and the book. We put up the camera and the lights with the help of those who come first (is a good way to brake the ice). Stream live and then issue a edited version as podcast the day after.

HOW TO HAVE PEOPLE: Send message to all list, call some people personally, get in touch with UVA circles, with Rietfeld Circles, with Das Arts Circles etc. The round up talk needs 6 persons that should be invited beforehand so they can prepare, at least the first time

HOWTO IMPROVISE We keep steady the time, ind a draconian way. We use bells, caffeine, electroshock to keep times short, and strict for prepared talks. We keep relaxed the atmosphere in the open lab and at the final chill out. Technical times have to be very precise to be able to improvise with contents. We use pathos in the arguments but not in the words or the tones: respect, motivated possibly positive critiques and not low-language (i talk for myself here :))

WHAT ON WEB Slides, links and program of the day on a wiki accessible by all partecipants in the space, so the docs gets created while the meeting is going on. Share the ideas! * Live Stream * Archived and edited highlits as podcast and videopodcasts fro dyne.org * Mailing list
