Dynebolic Wishlist

This is a Dynebolic wishlist. If you want something added to Dynebolic, you can add it here.

Please only add software that is free (as in speech).

Please say who you are that wants it, and why (say something about it)

See also the DyneBolicSoftwareList

Features

  • ext4 filesystem support, allows access to latest linux distro's harddrives (currently there isn't ext4 support, is it?)
  • Some tool or instructions to make it easier to set up a working user on a nest/dock so as not to run as root all the time (better security). - GW
  • Invade windows - with NTFS write support now available it should be a priority to get it working to invade all those machines running XP/Vista & show the users how slow that is in comparison to d:b.

  • screen wish: 800x480
  • pxe client boot. like ClusterKnoppix does.

  • rdesktop, vnc, nx, etc. like dls.nexedi.org
  • OSD & remote control burn vcd/dvd from handycam

  • ALSA 1.0.8, for better sound module support (specifically the Motif R and a number of USB keyboards)
  • something similar to ltsp, easy configuration of remote X server-terminals architecture
  • What about if I could install a new application on my hard-disk and then burn a new Dynebolic Bootable CD including it?
    • that can probably be UnionFS, help is welcome to set that up -jrml
  • kernel 2.6 in dyne:II
    • Necessary kernel patch "OpenMosix" is not available for kernel versions above 2.4.x -martin

    • The FATX driver for Linux 2.6 is broken: serious Linux distributions for XBoxes must still use the 2.4 kernel. When they come out with Dynebolic 2, we'll lose XBox support for FATX formatted partitions (if the XBox has cromwell instead, you could wipe the drive clean and format it all as an ext3 filesystem).
      • Broken as of when? They work fine for many people.
  • Drivers (hardware support) for:
  • WebCam Go (Creative Labs). Driver: w9968cf -axeloide

  • Wacom Graphire II tablet mouse - I can't use dynebolic at all as I only have the tablet: X-Evian includes support for this already so I suspect drivers are easilyavailable.
    • updates to X will support this.
  • Prism54 wireless chipset, http://prism54.org, included in kernel 2.6.5 :) (though still unclear whether firmware is free software)

  • Atmel wireless chipset, http://atmelwlandriver.sourceforge.net

  • vloopback (see http://veejay.sourceforge.net/mini_howto.html) vloopback lets you use software to feed a application that only takes v4l inputs. (can be found at http://www.lavrsen.dk/twiki/bin/view/Motion/VideoFourLinuxLoopbackDevice)

  • SAA7134 Chipset (see http://linux.bytesex.org/v4l2/saa7134.html)

  • ZD1201 Zydas USB Wireless chispet - cheap and good for external USB antenna wifi mounts http://linux-lc100020.sourceforge.net/ erisian

  • Instant webserver, e.g. XAMPP (Apache+MySQL+PHP+Perl) or monkeyd
  • * looks like there is already boa, but no obvious documentation
  • Wiki, e.g. UseModWiki or Kwiki (run on Perl) / PhpWiki or PmWiki (run on PHP)

  • Software for an image-gallery, e.g. HTMLAlbum or Qdig "Quick Digital Image Gallery"
  • Network-Tools: nmap (also in menu)
  • pdf-viewer (also in menu) present! (xpdf) but needs to be in the menu

  • Some more small games, e.g. Collapse (http://wiki.tcl.tk/10287), Spider Solitaire (http://wiki.tcl.tk/11317)

    • Or better yet, just bundle in PySol.

  • For each application, at least one matching datafile / document / picture / music etc. (e.g. hydrogen plays right away, but not soundtracker or terminatorx)
  • Utility for syncing a palm-pda, e.g. pilot-link or xnotes, see http://www.graphics-muse.com/xnotes/ug-palmos.html

  • Xsupplicant - An open source implementation of IEEE 802.1x authentication tool- http://open1x.sourceforge.net/

  • System to manage modules on a docked system. Have experimented with having a directory (park) to keep unwanted modules in (un-needed modules hog RAM). At the moment I have just used Midnight Commander to move modules between the /modules & the /park folders. Perhaps a nice frontend to manage listing, parking & unparking modules with a reboot button as well? Ultimately the means to load/unload modules on a running sytem :)

  • Support for Power PC chipsets

Applications

* Alsa-firmware
