Dynebolic 2.5.2 Fixes

List of known issues:

Rosegarden does not 'see' LADSPA plug ins making them unavailable for audio processing. May also be a good time to upgrade to the newer version.

Dial up networking does not work at all, not even dialing out, even with a hardware serial modem (lacking of kernel modules).

Cinelerra the menu and buttons have no functions...

Idle (Python development tool) is installed but not in the menu system

ROX-Filer:

• When you start an application via Rox (just doubleclick a common file), it can happens that the application creates it's settings directory in the system root - e.g. "/.mplayer" instead of "~/.mplayer".

• It's not possible to change the user's language in the Rox options - but when you do this in /etc/LANGUAGE Rox doesn't support all chars - it needs UTF8. Changing "export LANG" to UTF8 support will result that other applications can't display or even display wrong some characters...

Timidity is missing in this dynebolic version, but how should MIDI files be played? - There's no hint in dynebolic anywhere and JACK doesn't start (error messages) or crashes after configuration...

Fluxbox does have an ugly behavior when you set it as default window manager in /mnt/dyne/dyne.cfg: You have to hold the mouse button clicked when you don't want that the dynebolic menu will disappear...

Xfce doesn't support icons at the desktop... (there must be an compiling option)

Less Dynebolic 2.4.2 'orientation':

• dynebolic menu: the custom modules with a menu entry are apearing in the 2.5.2 version under CONFIGURE with the tools icon
• dyneSDK: it is not really possible to change the /mnt/dyne/2618ck1d.krn file and include own build kernel modules there

Ideas for future dynebolic releases

Screensaver support: Something like xlock or other known X tools.

Energy saving support in the dynebolic kernel.

Advanced multiuser support (maybe for the use in schools and activity centers):

• the mounting and umounting of devices for non-root users should be as simple as possible (e.g. Rox shouldn't start usb devices as root and the changing of some /dev/... permissions)

• XDM could have some restart and shutdown buttons. (Howto)

• the sudoers file should be more look like a common linux one - for a simple use of the sudo command:
