There are other distributions that are also suited for minimal hardware situations, optimized to not waste your time and money, with a non-business minded phiosophy. Here we gather some links, the idea for this page was suggested by jaromil via the dynebolic mailing list
he is now mantaining such a list on the website http://bricolabs.net/operating-systems
You can help completing the list below with more links and brief descriptions of the distros. Please don't add any distro that is not especially optimized. Dyne.org follows certain quality standards in the software that it does, so this list should link only to third-party software that somehow matches those standards. If you are wondering, Ubuntu and Knoppix do not match: they are too bloated and require latest expensive hardware to run.
The following list of distros were suggested as fits for various kinds (please insert description thereof) of low tech computers:
- tomsrtbt (old school minimalistic distro)
- puppy linux (best for old hardware)
- Damn Small Linux ( damn small knoppix with modules , great!!!)
- Slax (slack)
- Simple Mepis (deb)
- GRML (geeky!)
- Crunchbang (uber geeky!)
